What shall we play? The Boardgames Academy.

We started talking to Zoli Győri and Réka Győri-Nádai, the owners of the Mit játsszunk (What shall we play?) channel: how we could go deeper into what board gaming is essentially about at the end of 2021. We shook hands, and the result of our collaboration is the 2022 episodes of Board Game Academy, which you can watch on Zoli's channel or here.

We have produced longer, highly informative videos - We warmly recommend them to you.

It is not a coincidence that Zoli and I found each other. Many of our co-workers enjoy the intellectual challenge that board games can provide - enthusiastic colleagues have been running an in-house board games club for years.

Our headquarters - Univerzum, located in tInfopark, Budapest - served as the location for filming the Academy.

The videos below are (unfortunately) only available in Hungarian:

Games and playfulness - Board Game Academy Part I:

What types of players are classified? How do they play? - Board Game Academy Part II:

Abstract, logical, cooperative, one-player, detective, board... What types and kinds of board games do we know, and how can we group them and get to know them better?

What complex mechanisms make games work? - Board Game Academy Part III:

Board games are like little cogs in a wheel, driven by playful mechanisms that most of us don't even notice while having fun.  In Part 3 of the Board Game Academy, we covered more advanced issues:

What shall we play? What do board games have to do with us? (podcast)

After the first three episodes of the Board Game Academy, we had the opportunity to chat with Zoli Győri about how the world of work and board games are connected. Zoli's interviewer was our colleague, Dani Kővári. Dani is also a great board game player. (The podcast is in Hungarian.)

Visit the post for the podcast channel itself, and how to access it on other platforms (Apple, Google, Spotify, RSS).

How I grew through board gaming - Board Game Academy Part IV:

Computer vs board games - Board Game Academy Part V:

In the 5th episode of the Board Game Academy, Zoli Győri contrasted the world of computer games with that of board games. These two popular hobbies are not so far apart, or are they? 😉 What market do they target, how do they appeal to us, and what are the most memorable remakes?
