University of Szeged - Agile software development course
In the spring semester of the academic year 2022/2023, we held the course "Agile Software Development" at the University of Szeged for the third time.
The aim of the practice-oriented training is to give the students the opportunity to work together on a real project of their choice and to experience what it is like to work in an agile team, using agile methodology.
The course material is a combination of practice and theory. Delegates from software development companies cooperating with the university, including evosoft, will be guest lecturers and will give theoretical and practical classes once a week on a set theme. The latter can even take place at the company in the form of external training sessions.
21 students, mostly second- and third-year students, applied to join the evosoft team. The hands-on training was led by our evosoft Scrum Master and Product Owner colleagues, with playful tasks and discussions related to the scrum methodology. The basic idea for the projects implemented in the course came from the students: for instance, one team created a game like "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" to prepare for university exams, while another team created an application combining a database of PC games, console games and a social platform (e.g. games played until the end, marking favourite games, ratings, searching for games by platform, theme, new releases).
The students worked in two-week sprints: one week they had sprint changeover ceremonies in evosoft's Szeged office building, the other week the standup and backlog refinement took place in the university classroom.
Thanks to the instructors and lecturers for their enthusiastic contribution, and to the students for the fantastic demos!
