How does a software developer work for a charity?
Some time at the end of the year, we received the following letter from one of our employees, Lizi:
“Hi,
I’m Lizi. I'm also in the Talent scheme team organizing a volunteering programme with HabitatForHumanity. If I am not mistaken, you have already heard of us.
We finally got the permission and can start the work; furthermore, we also received the budget for the project. I've been appointed as the contact person for the team, and I'd like to ask for help on how we can address the colleagues with this programme. Are you free to talk at some point? It would be nice if we could discuss the details (we have known so far) and how to proceed. When can I contact you?”
Soon after, Lizi popped in as a team representative; they addressed the colleagues and launched the project for a wide range of co-workers. Meet Lizi, see how an idea grows into a project with nearly 100 people, and what it takes to make it a success. You’ll find two materials below: a short video with English subtitles and a podcast in Hungarian telling you the details of the project:
How does a software developer work for a charity? With mortar, hammers and an endless flow of spirits! We consider charitable activities vital, so 87 of our colleagues volunteered with Habitat for Humanity in 2 locations over 7 working days in the last week and a half. Among other things, they worked on the renovation of a municipal social rented housing property.
You can find out more about this project listening to Lizi, Peti and Imi in the podcast discussion below. The interview is in Hungarian:
